Pre-Enrollment Requirements

Transfer Credit

Once the student is admitted to LICHSON, the Office of Student Services in collaboration with the Academic Standing Committee makes a determination about transfer credit. Requests for transfer credit for courses taken at other accredited institutions will be evaluated according to the guidelines set by the Academic Standing Committee. Transfer credit may be awarded for general education courses completed with a “C” or better at an accredited institution, provided content is comparable to that of courses at the affiliated college. Applicants who have attended college must submit official transcripts from each institution attended. The applicant may be required to present a catalog description and official course outline for each course being considered. A minimum cumulative index of 2.0 is required for those prescribed courses in the AAS curriculum. In order to transfer, science courses must have been taken in the past five years and must have a laboratory part. Permission to transfer a course should not be assumed. The student will receive documentation of the courses for which transfer credit has been assigned.

Students who have completed course work in a foreign country and would like to receive transfer credit for liberal arts courses must submit an evaluation from World Education Service. St. Francis College will make the determination regarding the application of transfer credits.

Students may use the CLEP option for transfer credit for selected liberal arts courses in the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing curriculum. Students are encouraged to discuss the CLEP option during the admission and registration period. Students are directed to the Registrar and to the College Board web site for further information. Students must register for the courses independently and assume all costs for the testing.

Health Requirements

Physical examinations will be performed at Beth Israel Medical Center prior to enrollment at LICHSON. Applicants must present evidence of all required immunizations or receive the necessary vaccines. The student receives a bill for the services of the Beth Israel Hospital Department of Occupational Medicine by the School of Nursing. These services are not covered by the student’s health insurance. Occasionally, physicians at health service will require additional tests. In this instance, the students is allowed to have these tests performed by their personal physician so that health insurance will pay for the services. The student is required to be in good health when working in the clinical area. Students who have an infectious illness or disease that interferes with their ability to deliver care to patients must have medical clearance before returning to the clinical area

Basic Life Support Program

All students are required to complete a basic life support (BLS) course for healthcare professionals. Students must provide valid evidence of successful completion of the appropriate CPR course prior to enrollment in the nursing course.

Citizenship

Students must provide evidence of US citizenship or permanent residency. At this time, LICHSON is not able to accept international students on student visa.
